The project
I’m working with a team in UC Irvine’s EECS 195 Drones course. Our goal is to build and fly a drone, connecting the airframe and propulsion hardware with its avionics and control systems.
This is a class project with a hands-on engineering focus: understanding how individual components become a complete flight system, and working as a group through assembly, configuration, and test preparation.
What the course brings together
Airframe, power, and propulsion
Drone structure, batteries, motors, and electronic speed controllers form the physical and electrical foundation of the build.
Avionics and control
The course covers flight-controller configuration with ArduPilot, radio control, GPS, and communication between the drone and its ground systems.
Telemetry and autonomous flight
Later course objectives include telemetry, waypoint missions, autonomous takeoff, and landing. These are project goals as the build progresses.
